Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL Telugu Movie Review:
G Nageswar Reddy is in need of reinvention, if Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL is anything to go by. While the film tries very hard to flesh out a paper-thin story into something entertaining, even smart, all it manages to do is become a tale often told about a street-smart man who manages to best a clever yet evil person. And just when you think everything is neatly tied up in a pretty bow, albeit a predictable one, the film tries to throw caution to the wind and switches things up, yet again, almost towards the end. Unfortunately, instead of offering an edge-of-the-seat, funny and entertaining experience like it promises, the film just turns out to be a dreary one.

Right off the bat, the film takes its own sweet time setting up the characters. There’s the lawyer Tenali Ramakrishna (Sundeep Kishan), son of broker Durga Rao (Ravi Babu), with the onus of cleaning up the family name on his broad shoulders. Desperate for cases and offering deep discounts, he begins offering solutions for out-of-court settlements called ‘compromises’ in lieu of a career, making easy money. And then there’s Rukmini (Hansika Motwani). Why she exists in the tale other than to dance in duets and being told she’s dumb ‘hybrid tomato’ is anybody’s guess. Ambitious but lacking basic common sense, she’s the daughter of famous criminal lawyer Chakravarthy (Murali Sharma), whose favourite pastime is to look down upon Tenali’s family and remind them of the class divide that exists between them. And last but not the least, there’s the famous industrialist Valalaxmi (Varalaxmi) who’s the sweetheart of the common man. Why? No one knows. She just is.
